| 2006 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo Highlights |
|
"Chevrolet updates its largest sedan and coupe for 2006 with new engines,
reworked suspensions, and revised exterior styling. Both the Impala sedan
and the Monte Carlo coupe are offered in LS, LT 3.5, LT 3.9, LTZ, and sporty
SS trim. LS and LT 3.5 models come with a 211-hp 3.5-liter V6, up 30 hp from
2005's base engine. LT 3.9 and LTZ models have a 242-hp 3.9-liter V6. SS
models get a 303-hp V8 with GM's Active Fuel Management, which deactivates
four cylinders under light throttle conditions to save fuel. All come with
a 4-speed automatic transmission. SS models have sport suspension and 18-inch
wheels; others get 16s or 17s, depending on model.
Available for all Impala
models except SS is a front bench seat for 6-passenger seating. SS and all
Monte Carlos come only with buckets. Head-protecting curtain side airbags
are standard on Impala. They are not available for Monte Carlo, but front
torso side airbags are optional. ABS and traction control, are available.
GM's OnStar Assistance is standard. Available are a remote starter that turns
the engine on via the keyfob, leather upholstery, and satellite radio. "

| 2006 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo News |

"Impala is getting a makeover for 2006. Sources can't say how extreme it
might be, but we think it will emulate the latest Pontiac Grand Prix and
Buick's new LaCrosse in giving the current model fairly extensive cosmetic
and engineering changes. Monte Carlo, the Impala's coupe sister, gets a similar
treatment for '06. A rumored V8 option for both models has apparently been
postponed so Chevy can assess sales potential--and the effects a V8 would
have on meeting corporate average fuel economy standards.
Even so, there's
talk of a new full-size Chevy sedan with rear-wheel drive as well as V8 power.
Sources can't say when or even if this car might appear, but it would surely
be built on the new rear-drive Zeta platform being developed by GM's Australian
subsidiary for new rear-drive models at other GM brands. Stay tuned."

| 2006 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo Competition |
|
"Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based
on size, price, and market position. Midsize Cars represent the heart
of the U.S. car market. Most are price-sensitive, conservatively designed,
family oriented sedans and wagons.
Our Best Buys include Honda Accord and Toyota
Camry. Our Recommended picks include Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata,
Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, and Subaru Outback and Legacy.
New or significantly
redesigned models include Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Fusion,
Mercury Milan, and Volkswagen Passat."

| 2006 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo Write Ups |
|
Ride
"Soft, but some float and wallow with 16-inch tires. Available 17s temper much
of the unwanted motion. Little comfort penalty with SS, despite sport suspension
with 18-inch wheels, though larger bumps felt more readily in Monte Carlo than
Impala."
Noise
"Wind rush and tire roar both intrude slightly in Impala, more so in Monte Carlo.
In rapid acceleration, V6s emit prominent growl. V8 subdued at cruise, has muscle
car rumble under throttle. Assorted squeaks noted in one test Impala."
Comfort - Front
"Head, leg room adequate in Impala and Monte Carlo. With standard 6-passenger
seating, Impala bench seat bottom too short for long-distance comfort. Narrow
cabin limits three-abreast seating to short trips, smaller passengers. Decent
visibility compromised slightly by thick rear pillars in Impala, more so in Monte
Carlo. Easy entry/exit."
Cargo Room
"Impala trunk roomy, has usefully flat floor. Lid uses nonintrusive strut-type
hinges, but odd-shaped opening hampers loading bulky objects. Monte Carlo trunk
generous for coupe, just average for midsize car. Both have adequate cabin storage. "
