Acceleration
"Robust V8 furnishes ample power from any speed. Chevy says 4WD Tahoe does 8.9
sec 0-60 mph. Transmission delivers smooth, prompt shifts. No opportunity yet
to test with 2WD. Towing capacity is 7700 lb. "
Value
"Chevrolet's 2007 redesign of this full-size SUV addresses the most egregious
flaws of its predecessor: sloppy steering and subpar interior appointments. Third-row
accommodations are best suited to children, but for smooth power, usable space,
and overall refinement, Tahoe merits a place atop any large SUV shopping list. "
Economy
No opportunity yet to measure. Chevy says Active Fuel Management System improves highway fuel economy by 10-15 percent. Tahoe uses regular-grade fuel.
Noise
"Moderate highway-speed wind rush, mostly from outside mirrors. Cabin otherwise
impressively hushed. Road, engine noise well muted. "
Comfort - Front
"Generous room. Substantial, supportive seats. Available power-adjustable pedals
add convenience. Rearview TV camera aids aft visibility, but distorts distances,
compromising usefulness. No opportunity to test with bench seat."
Comfort - Rear
"Spacious 2nd row in all models. Third row best left to children. Power-folding
2nd-row seats aid 3rd-row egress; must be returned to seating position manually,
but are spring-loaded for easy operation. High step in, narrow passage complicate
3rd-row access."
Controls
"Gauges large, easy to read. Major and minor controls logically placed, operate
with precision. Navigation system absorbs some audio functions, has small, fussy
controls that require familiarization. Cabin has upscale feel with high-grade
materials, plenty of soft-touch surfaces. No opportunity to test model without
navigation system."
Cargo Room
"Ample with 3rd-row seat in place, cavernous with seat folded. Folded 3rd-row
seatbacks form flat surface, but rest 2 inches above level of rear load floor,
complicating loading of larger items. Large center console bin, generous front
and rear door pockets. "
