Acceleration
"Midsize V6 rivals from Honda, Nissan, and Toyota are faster, but V6 versions
of the Stratus have good power for most duty. Four-cyl models feel more lethargic
relative to the competition. Automatic transmissions change gears with little
fuss, though they could be quicker to downshift. AutoStick improves throttle
response some."
Value
"Stratus fulfills its mission, and, in V6 guise, does credible duty as a sporty-feeling
family car. What it lacks is the power, mechanical refinement, and design polish
of the midsize-car-class leaders."
Ride
SXT comfortably absorbs most bumps. R/T feels more agitated on uneven surfaces due to firmer suspension settings and low-profile 17-inch tires.
Economy
Test V6s averaged 17.5-18.3 mpg. Expect slightly better mileage with 4-cyl versions.
Noise
"Less refined overall than Japanese-brand rivals, but 2.7-liter V6 surprisingly
smooth. Wind rush reasonably well-muffled, but no model adequately filters out
tire noise."
Comfort - Front
"Airy-feeling cabin with good space for larger adults, though some test drivers
would prefer the steering wheel closer to the dashboard. Visibility good, but
lane changes would be easier with bigger outside mirrors. "
Comfort - Rear
"Three adults fit with a little squeezing. Head clearance a bit snug, leg room
ample, but foot space tight."
Controls
Sensible layout except for low-mounted CD changer. Materials don't match those of import rivals.
Cargo Room
"Trunk space average for class. Interior storage limited to small console, glovebox,
and front-door map pockets."
